Joint Exhibition

This joint exhibition brings together Jason Chen’s Not Enough and Thea Tang’s Love Letter in one space. Their visual languages initially appear close, encouraging viewers to read the photographs as the work of a single author. Closer attention reveals two positions: one examines masculinity and the demand to perform strength; the other considers intimacy, the gaze and control within romantic relationships.

The framed photographs in Not Enough act as physical enclosures, extending the project’s concern with social restriction. Love Letter is pinned directly to the wall, creating a more immediate and exposed surface while distinguishing the two bodies of work.

At the centre, the exhausted muscle suit lies across a plinth like a vulnerable body on an operating table. A phone placed at its genital area plays unedited conversations and footage from the shoots. An ageing iMac G3 presents a silent, edited loop of awkwardness and control, introducing the unreliable atmosphere of memory.

The only sound in the gallery comes from the phone. Through this contrast between raw dialogue and silent recollection, the installation connects masculine vulnerability with the circulation of power inside intimacy.
